Phew, you’ve got the perfect proposal out of the way and have wowed your other half with what was no doubt her dream occasion! So now it’s on to wowing the lads with a stupendous stag, and leave no details to chance. With the right preparation you can create an epic, memorable event with the excitement of The Expendables 2, the adrenaline of a race against Lewis Hamilton and the suaveness of 007.
All that said, the normal stag options might not make the cut, so it’s time to look outside the box and plan something with a difference. With the right planning your stag weekend can have a real edge, without the usual cliche of ending up tied to a lamppost with indelible ink all over your face (which isn’t as side-splittingly hilarious as one might think.)
So, to rise to the stag challenge for you we’ve created a checklist on making it extra special, so that you and your very best friends can have a real weekend to remember!
Tip one: Pick a good destination.
It’s all about making it different and unique, so pick your destination wisely! Although the most popular stag destinations are Bristol, London and Cardiff why not look at going further afield? Riga is a terrific destination with loads to do, and Vilnius is an unusual one at great value. Reykjavik is another top, unusual option which differs from the norm. In the Icelandic capital you can bathe in the Blue Lagoon and ride snowmobiles over active volcanoes- which beats a quiet night in the local pub hands down.
Tip two: Choose a date that suits.
No matter how incredible the weekends plans are, if no one can make it then its not going to be much fun. Find out when everyones free and book a weekend accordingly. If a few people cant make it then be fair but firm, you may have to book without them at this stage (you can often add them at a later stage if slots are still free.)
Tip three: Make it unusual.
Add an extra-special touch to the weekend- whether thats a terrific activity or a surprise performance for the groom-to-be. In terms of unusual activities, you could try blow karting (yup, thats a thing – not a spelling mistake!), broomball, a freefall simulator, chess boxing or medieval jousting. Or tie the activity in with your destination- you could have a Prague stag do to try the famous Prague Beer Spa, trek to the West Country for some Cheese Rolling or pop to Ireland to kiss the Blarney Stone.
Tip four: Manage the financials.
No matter what you’re planning for the big weekend, it’s important to keep a handle on the finances. Let all the boys know well in advance how much it’s going to cost so that they can budget accordingly, and make invitees aware of how much they have left to pay. It might be a good idea to create a spreadsheet that you can send out with a breakdown of costs and how much everyone has left to pay.
Tip five: Go through a professional organiser.
If you go through an events company they can help you with optimum planning and creating the perfect weekend for your needs. Professional stag weekend organisers have great relationships with suppliers so they get discounts which they pass on to groups- so it often works out cheaper. As well as that they do all the planning, from airport transfers to ensuring your hotel rooms are together- which takes a whole lot of pressure from the best mans shoulders!
Overall, make sure the groom-to-be enjoys the weekend! Once all the planning is out of the way you can sit back and revel in your best man success, with the knowledge that you have a phenomenal weekend ahead of you! The ultimate stag weekend awaits!
