London Marriage Proposals

Are you thinking about proposing in London but can’t come up with an original and unique idea?

Luckily for you we are London’s leading marriage proposal and romantic event planners, which means that we are full of creative and personalised ideas to help you plan the proposal of your dreams in England’s largest city.

The first thing that you need to consider when proposing in London is the exact location that you are going to pop that all-important question.

Famous Landmark

Proposing at a famous London landmark is always a great idea because every time you go back and visit it in the future you will remember the special moment you shared there.

Some of the most famous landmarks to propose at in London include The Shard, Wellington Arch, The London Eye, St James’ Park, Trafalgar Square and of course Big Ben!Couple in love in front of the House's of Parliament

If you are thinking about proposing in London and would like to propose in a more intimate setting a hotel is perfect.

The Shangri-La Hotel in The Shard is the perfect example of this. Their rooms are exquisite and have the best views over London.Tower Bridge and The Shard

We can either decorate your room to surprise your partner after a day of sightseeing or a romantic dinner. Or, if you’d prefer to propose at dinner with views that span across London we can decorate the Shangri-La’s private dining room with beautiful fairy lights, candles and rose petals before sitting down to a beautiful dinner.

If you want to propose on a boat why not do it in style by proposing in the actual speedboat that was used in James Bond? Sit and enjoy a glass of bubbly and canapés before getting down on one knee and popping the question.Marriage proposal on James Bond's speed boat along the River Thames Or if you want something a little calmer we can arrange for you to have a private moonlit dinner cruise along The Thames. We can even decorate the boat for you and arrange for you to be serenaded by a musician whilst you eat!

In a park

London has an abundance of beautiful green spaces so proposing in a park is always a great way to pop the question. Whether you choose to propose in the beauty of Queen Mary’s rose gardens in Regents Park, whilst boating on the Serpentine in Hyde Park, with a beautiful balloon in Greenwich Park, or have a picnic in the bandstand in Battersea Park, we tailor each proposal location to your needs.Picnic marriage proposal in The Pergola at Hampstead Heath

Type of Proposal

The next thing that you need to consider is the type of proposal that you want. Below we have suggested just a few of the proposals ideas that we can create for you if you would like to propose in London, as well as videos to accompany them.

All you need to know about proposing.

A proposal is such a special moment in any couples life as it is the start of their journey towards their future lives together.

Gone are the days when getting down on one knee and asking your girlfriend or boyfriend to marry you was enough. Today marriage proposals are a lot more personalised, and that’s where we come in. By helping men, (and women), arrange a stunning and unique proposal for their partner.

If you’re thinking about popping that all important question, here is our guide to making sure that your special moment runs as smoothly as possible.

What should I consider before proposing?

Is your partner traditional?

Although times have moved on, it is still a nice sentiment to get your future spouses parents on board by asking their permission first. It may seem outdated, but we’re sure that your partner will appreciate it.

The Ring

Before settling on the perfect ring there is so much to consider. We have combined forces with family run diamond jewellers Purely Diamonds, not only to give our clients an amazing discount, but also to teach them about what they should look for when buying a ring.

If your partner is a girly girl you should go for a princess, or heart cut ring design. If they prefer a vintage design an emerald, or asscher cut ring is brilliant. If you would like to stick with something a little more traditional, a round brilliant cut diamond solitaire makes the perfect ring.

Here’s what you should look for when finding your engagement ring:

What sort of proposal should I have?

This is simple, you should tailor your proposal to your partner and it will be perfect.

If your partner loves rainbow roses, make sure they’re present. If their favourite song is John Legend’s, ‘All of Me,’ make sure it is playing in the background. Or print out cute little pictures that you have taken together up until this moment, and put them in pretty frames of your partner’s favourite colour.

It’s the little touches that might not seem like anything to you, which will make the proposal that much more special to them.

If you think that your partner would like a proposal that is big and flashy, getting someone to perform your partners favourite song is always a great way to do this.

italian gardens

If you think that they’d prefer something more intimate you can hire out a stunning venue, which you can then decorate beautifully, and have a private meal for two in.Room decor

Where should my proposal take place?

Before proposing you should make sure that the location is epic! The location will be part of your proposal story after all, plus you’ll want a great backdrop for photos! The Proposal (18) (1)

One of the most popular places to propose in London is The Shard. Why wouldn’t it be? The view is incredible! Every city has it’s own unique landmark or venue that would make the perfect location for your proposal. You just need to find it! shardAlternatively, you can take your proposal across the seas to warmer, (and colder!) climates. Proposing on a beach at dusk as the waves crash beside you is such a romantic idea. As is proposing under the Northern Lights. From Iceland to Zanzibar we have planned proposals all over the world, and even have our own branches in Dubai and India! So if you’re looking to propose abroad we have plenty of great ideas.icleand

Should my proposal be public or private?

This, again, depends on your partner. If they are someone that loves PDA’s (public display’s of affection), then a huge display of your love in the middle of a public place will be the perfect proposal for them. If, however, they are more reserved, a flash mob proposal in the centre of Trafalgar Square might not go down so well. The Proposers Flash Mob - Covent Garden, London 13/7/13 ©Chris LobinaYou should do something more low-key and intimate instead! As we said before you can hire out a beautiful venue and decorate it, or hire a private pod in the London Eye so that you have stunning views when asking that all-important question.londoneye

National Proposal Day

National Proposal Day is quickly creeping up on us, but does anyone actually know where this day came from?

We’re here to shed some light on the tradition behind this wonderful day and to provide you with tips on how to organise the best, National Proposal Day,  marriage proposal ever!

National Proposal Day occurs each year on the 20th March. It is not as well known as other romantic holidays (i.e. Valentine’s Day), but it is still quite literally the perfect day to pop the question to your loved one.

The tradition of National Proposal Day allegedly came about decades ago after a man named John Michael O’Loughlin watched his cousin wait years for her boyfriend to propose, until she eventually gave up and moved on.

O’Loughlin said National Proposal Day is designed to be a day where couples, who are yet to get engaged, but who really should be, will hopefully be forced to have a conversation about where their future is going.

So why the 20th March? According to O’Loughlin it is because it is the first day of spring, and this is where day and night are of equal length worldwide, symbolizing the equal efforts of the two required to comprise the successful marriage.proposal

How should you propose on National Proposal Day?

In a park

As the 20th March is the beginning of springtime, it seems only fitting to propose somewhere that reflects that, and where better than a beautiful park in the middle of London?NishProposal_21

Imagine strolling through the park to see a group of buskers singing your partners favourite song. As you get closer to them, one of the singers break away from the group to hand your partner a gift.

As your partner unwraps the gift, a frame is revealed containing a photo of the two of you together. Whilst your partner is busy with the gift you can get down on one knee behind them so that when they turn around they will be shocked to see you down on one knee.

With a fantastic view

Proposing at one of the highest places in London will literally make you feel on top of the world. Not only gives you fantastic views, but it also creates an incredible proposal story.tomcoby3-1024x683

We have created a number of proposals in The Shard. Whether you want to propose in a restaurant, a hotel room or even at The View From The Shard itself we can beautifully decorate any area to your tastes. Take a look here for more information.

On a boat

Taking a private row on a beautiful lake in the middle of Regents Park or Hyde Park is a great way to pop the question.

You can get friends and family involved too by asking them to row over with gifts that symbolise your relationship. You can also get them to bring over flowers and champagne once your partners said yes!

In a private garden

Do you have a beautiful garden, or does your partner have a favourite song that you want to replicate?

Wouldn’t it be amazing to propose in the middle of a secluded garden, in a great location, (like this one that overlooks The Shard). We can decorate the garden gorgeously with fairy lights and lanterns so that it looks like a dream when you walk in. To make the proposal even more special we can hire singers to surprise your partner by performing their favourite song.

Proposing in Suffolk

Proposing is a daunting business. Gone are the days when it was acceptable to get down on one knee to ask your girlfriend those four little words that she’s been dreaming of hearing her entire life, – ‘Will you marry me’- before sliding that beautiful diamond ring onto her awaiting finger. Today proposing has almost turned into a competition. It seems the bigger the spectacle the greater your love.

Fortunately, we are ready and waiting to give a helping hand so that you too can create the perfect proposal for your partner.

Take a look below to see The Proposers Guide for the best ways to propose in Suffolk.

1. In front of a spectacular building:

If it’s a jaw dropping, treat her like a princess proposal that you’re after then Ickworth House is the ideal location. Whether it’s by the house itself, in the expansive gardens or in the parkland beyond you’re not short of beautiful surroundings to pop that all-important question

Plus think how great your engagement photo will look!

2. In a private venue:

Another location that will make her feel like a Queen is Hengrave Hall.

Hengrave Hall

Imagine hiring the venue and having it all to yourselves. The gardens would make a stunning location for the proposal and you could even arrange to have ‘Will You Marry Me,’ written out in fire!

3. Whilst glamping.

If you’re nature lovers, get back to it in style with a spot of glamping. Secret Meadows offer luxury gypsy wagons, which would be perfect. Just think how romantic it would be to propose in front of a fire, under a sky full of stars!

We can arrange for you to return to your accommodation after a day of activities to see that it has been completely transformed with fairy lights, flowers, and candles. We can also arrange for a private chef to come and cook a three-course meal for you to enjoy whilst you are celebrating your engagement.

4. At the beach:

Aldeburgh, Claremont, Kessingland, The Pier Beach. Suffolk is lucky enough to have an abundance of beaches so if you want to propose by the sea, this could be ideal for you.

Beach Proposal 1

Why not hire a beach hut and get us to come and beautifully decorate it for you with fairy lights, candles, flower petals and personalised trinkets? Alternatively, we can come and organise a private romantic picnic on the beach for you.

Beach Proposal 2

5. On a boat.

Whether you hire a cute rowing boat for an hour or two, or a private speedboat for the day, proposing on the water is incredibly romantic and Thorpeness Meare is an idyllic setting.

We once re-created a scene from the film, The Notebook, for one proposal. This involved a rowing boat on the lake, a West End singer to perform the couple’s favourite song, and hundreds of paper swans!

Leap Year Proposal Ideas

It’s back again, that time that gets everyone talking. That’s right you’ve got it, we’re talking about a Leap Year! Why does it get everyone talking? It’s because once every 4 years it is socially acceptable for a woman to propose to a man. An archaic ideology we know, but one that unfortunately is still exists in these modern times.

As you know we love planning proposals, it’s what we’re good at and it’s a massive bonus that we get to make couples incredibly happy once in a while. Ok, more than once in a while. (We’ve planned over 650 proposals in the last four years!)

We adore planning Leap Year proposals, but unfortunately with a staggering 79% of women not feeling brave enough to propose to their man we don’t get to plan as many as we’d like. Luckily we’ve still had some ladies who have taken the plunge.

Where does the idea of a Leap Year proposal come from?

There are a number of theories of where this tradition comes from:

  1. In the 5th Century it is rumoured that St Brigid of Kildare, an Irish nun, asked St Patrick to let women propose after many women were left waiting for a proposal from their boyfriends. He granted her wish and allowed women to propose every four years on a Leap Day.
  2. In 1288 the five-year-old Queen Margaret of Scotland allegedly created a law, which allowed women to propose on a Leap Year as long as they wore a red petticoat. If a woman’s boyfriend rejected her proposal he was forced to pay a fine.
  3. If a woman in Finland wanted to propose to their boyfriend they had to do it on a Leap Day, as it was the only day that gave the couple good luck. If the boyfriend refused he was required to pay a fine, (enough money to pay for a new skirt).
  4. In some European countries, if a man rejected his girlfriends proposal he would have to buy her twelve pairs of gloves to hide the shame of being rejected.

How to Propose:

The thought of proposing can be daunting for anyone, but don’t worry if you remember these few basic tips to proposing, we promise that you’ll be absolutely fine!

  1. Consider whether you’re definitely ready. There’s a reason why he hasn’t proposed yet. It could be because he’s lazy or scared of commitment, or perhaps he just thinks that you are not in the right financial position at the moment to be married. Or he could not just be at the same stage as you! Make sure you suss this out before you propose.
  2. Tailor the proposal to him. What does you partner like or dislike? If he likes fishing write ‘Will You Marry Me’, on little note and attach it to his hook. If he likes football you can write it on the back of a shirt of his favourite team.
  3. Propose in private. Men are very protective of their ego and you definitely don’t want to bruise it whilst proposing. Do you have a spot that you always go together or is there somewhere that you’ve always wanted to visit? Make sure that you find a romantic spot where you can pop the question in private and he’ll thank you for it later.
  4. Get him a ring. If your boyfriend is the kind of man that would wear jewellery then definitely get him a ring. Take a look at our partners, Purely Diamonds, stunning collection of man-gagement rings here. If he doesn’t like to wear a ring why not buy him a watch instead. That way at least he’ll remember to get to the church on time!

What if he says no?

Don’t worry and don’t panic. You don’t know why he’s said no. He may have been planning to propose to you and you just got there first. Or maybe he’s just not ready to make that kind commitment. Instead of thinking this is the end of the world, instead talk to him about why he’s not ready for marriage yet.

December: The Month of Proposals.

Ho, Ho, Ho, Merry Christmas! And what a Happy Christmas it is.

This December we’ve been working our little ‘stockings’ off to help make 21 couples very happy.

That’s right, we’ve managed to plan a phenomenal 21 proposals in 17 days!

Unfortunately, having so many proposals this close to Christmas means that our poor little Elves haven’t had the chance to put together the videos and pictures of all the proposals yet, but the good news is that you’ll have plenty to read about in the New Year!

Here’s a little preview of what you’ve got to look forward to!

Flash mob Open Mic Night Proposal

David came to us because he wanted to organise a proposal that would be something completely unique and different for his girlfriend Maria. After talking to him in more depth we found out that they both love poetry and music.

We decided that the proposal had to be an open mic night and we organised for 21 West End musicians to come to a private dining room in a pub and pretend to be strangers who wanted to perform in the open mic night. We also thought that it would be a lovely touch for David to come up on stage and read a poem for Maria, which he had written himself.david1  For the actual proposal a cellist began to play Aerosmith’s, “Don’t want to miss a thing.” As she did one of the musicians in the audience began to sing and one by one everyone else in the room joined in, (even the bartenders!).David2

As the song finished David got down on one knee and popped the question.davidmaria

Maria was so surprised and with a proposal as romantic as that of course she said YES!

Lakeside Proposal in the Lake District

Faiz got in contact with us because he wanted to organise an amazing proposal for his girlfriend Vicky. Being a doctor meant that he didn’t have enough spare time to organise the proposal he dreamed of, so he enlisted our help to create it for him.

He told us that Vicky absolutely loves lakes so we thought where could be better for a lakeside proposal than the Lake District!

For the proposal we hired a luxury home for them to stay in and ordered over 300 hundred lanterns, which we dotted around the outside area of the property, we painted leaves to make them sparkle and spelt out, ‘Will You Marry Me’ in gold letters next to a lantern containing the ring.faiz1We had to battle the torrential rain and wind, but it was worth it as the area looked absolutely magical.faiz2

It’s no surprise that Vicky said yes!faizvicky

Kilworth House Proposal

Joseph wanted to propose to his girlfriend Amy and he came to us because they work together and he needed our help to make sure he didn’t ruin the surprise.

As a couple they are very elegant so we decided that a proposal in a grand house would be the perfect setting. We found Kilworth House and knew right away that this was where the proposal should take place.

joesph1We transformed the library so that the room was covered in beautiful fairy lights and candles. We placed three easels in the room to represent the couples past, present and future. The past and present easels contained photographs of the couple together and on the third easel there was a canvas of Joseph alone, holding up a card with a ‘?’ on it.

When the couple arrived Amy was greeted by the beautiful room and unwrapped the easels one by one. As she revealed the third Joseph got down on one knee and asked Amy to be his wife. She said yes!

FRIENDS Themed Proposal

Mitesh wanted to propose to his girlfriend Anisha. After a bit of digging we found out that they are both massive fans of the TV show FRIENDS.

If you’ve ever properly listened to the words of the show’s famous theme tune, I’ll be there for you,  you’ll know that it’s actually an incredibly romantic song. We knew that we had to hire musicians to play the song for the couple whilst Mitesh proposed.

On the day of the proposal we completely covered the park with fairy lights, candles, and lanterns so that when Mitesh and Anisha arrived a wonderfully romantic scene greeted them.mitesh2After they’d sat down on the sofa and had taken in the atmosphere, a musician started to play the song, followed by another and another. As they were singing they walked around to where Mitesh and Anisha were sitting. As the song finished Mitesh got one down on one knee and asked Anisha to marry him.mitesh1

Through tears of happiness, she said yes!

Winter Wonderland Proposal

Ali asked us to help plan the perfect proposal for his girlfriend Yasmina. Being from Lebanon, Yasmina had come over to visit friends in London. In order to create the ultimate surprise, Ali pretended that he couldn’t travel to England with her, as he had to work.

On the day of the proposal Yasmina went to Winter Wonderland with a group of friends, whilst Ali came to meet us just outside at a beautiful fountain where we had invited a quartet to play their song, Etta James’s, ‘At Last.’ali1

We lured her to the fountain, and she was surprised and delighted to hear their song playing. As Yasmina was filming the scene to send to Ali in Lebanon, he had snuck up behind her and had got down on one knee waiting for her to turn around.

As the song ended, Yasmina turned around to see him holding up the ring as he asked her to marry him. She couldn’t believe her eyes and through tears of joy she said yes!

Congratulations to all the couples we have helped to create their perfect happy ending this December. We wish them all the best in the future.

These are just five of the 21 incredible proposals we’ve had the privilege of organising this month. Keep an eye out for the rest of them in the New Year!

How to create an unusual and original marriage proposal this Christmas.

Did you know that one in four proposals take place in December alone? It’s no surprise that this is the case as Christmas is one of the most romantic times of the year.

However, with a statistic like this you may be thinking, what can I do that hasn’t been done a million times before?

Not to worry, Santa’s little helpers are here to tell you about some of the most unique Christmas proposals that we could think of.

Spell it out in lights.

Imagine your partner’s surprise after returning home from a romantic night out to see, ‘Will You Marry Me’, spelt out in fairy lights?

If you wanted to surprise them even more we can to turn them on for you when your partner isn’t looking. That way the house will seem normal one minute and will say the four most romantic words they’ve ever read the next.

Use a mug

Christmas is the perfect excuse to drink mulled wine and this is also a great way to propose at Christmas.

If you are looking for something a little more low-key, why not use a mug to propose? You can sit by the fire, and watch Christmas films whilst drinking mulled wine. When your partner reaches the bottom of the mug they will be shocked to see the words, ‘Marry Me’ at the bottom!

Heart-warming? We think so!

Hang it from the mistletoe

What could be more romantic than mistletoe at Christmas? We know! Actually proposing underneath the mistletoe!

We can help you to create the perfect proposal by covering a whole doorframe in beautiful mistletoe. We will include personal touches such as photographs of the two of you, tickets from activities of what you have done together, notes you’ve written and of course the ring!

You can go out for a lovely romantic meal and when you return your partner will be shocked to see that the doorframe has been completely transformed into something magical.

Create a Fairy tale

If you’re planning to pop the question on Christmas Eve, why not do it using a book? You can give your partner their favourite Christmas story as an early present. When they open it they’ll be stunned not to see the usual pages within, but instead a ring!

Or, you can create your partner’s own personal fairy tale using our bespoke package.

Create a snow-prosal

This year why not give your partner a Christmas they’ll never forget by writing ‘Will You Marry Me?’ in the snow. You can either do this with real or fake snow, depending on the weather.

Alternatively you can position the snow and place a Father Christmas hat on top make it look like Santa is lying down on the ground. On the back of each hat you can spell out the words ‘Marry Me?’ What a lovely Christmas surprise!

All I want for Christmas is you!

We all love Mariah Carey’s hit song, ‘All I want for Christmas is you!’ If your partner does too and you think that this is the ideal song to propose to, we can help you arrange an amazing acoustic version or if you’d rather go one step further we can create an incredible Christmas flash mob proposal for you!

Advent Calendar

We think that proposing with an advent calendar is one of the most unique and thoughtful ways to propose.

Proposing this way gives you 24 opportunities to show how much you care about your partner before the big day. You can include anything from delicious chocolates to a voucher for their favourite shop. Sending them for a manicure is a must and so, of course, is the ring on the 25th day!

Live Proposal!

If you’d like to do something completely different we’re offering you the chance to propose live on TV on Christmas Day in front all your friends and family. For more information contact us on the email address provided below.

Coffee Proposal Ideas

It’s clear that the world has become obsessed with coffee. You can barely walk down a street in London without seeing some form of coffee shop or cafe. And with all the delicious coffee flavours that you can get, from a regular black coffee to a cinnamon and hazelnut latte, it is hardly surprising that a coffee craze has risen.

That’s why we’ve put together a list of amazing coffee proposal ideas that will surprise your coffee loving partner and will get you that all-important ‘Yes!’ that you’ve been waiting to hear.

Coffee Mug Proposal

Did you know that you are able to create coffee mugs which have personalised messages at the bottom of them? These special messages will be revealed when your partner finishes their drink!

Imagine your partners surprise when you make them a delicious breakfast in bed one morning accompanied by a special mug of coffee. Little will they know that at the bottom of their mug the words, ‘Marry me?’ are written.

Imagine their shock and happiness when they finish off their coffee and see those four special words lining the bottom! If that’s not worth a ‘yes’ then what is!?

Coffee Shop Cake Proposal

Who doesn’t love cake? It perfectly compliments coffee and can also help create the perfect proposal! Arrange to take your partner to a lovely, quaint coffee shop somewhere where you can then surprise them by having a cake in the shape of a ring box brought over to your table at the same time as your coffee. It’s such a great idea and you can even leave space for the ring!

This is the cake we recently had made for one lucky couple in Paris!

Romantic? We think so! What’s even better is that you can take the cake home with you to share with your friends and family after!

Cat Cafe Proposal

Speaking of proposing in cafe’s why not get your favourite furry, feline friends involved. We once organised an amazing proposal for a couple at Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium in Shoreditch.

Here’s our ring bearer helping our client pop the question.

No, we’re afraid that even we couldn’t get cats to pour cups of coffee but we could dress them up as waiters! We even used a cat as a ring bearer!

Coffee Cup Ring

If your partner is a coffee lover and you would like to propose but you know they won’t want you to decide on the ring without their input, this is a fun alternative and could be the best proposal for you.

Use a decoy ring in the form of a coffee cup to propose. It will definitely brighten up their day and you won’t have to worry about not having found the perfect ring!

Foam Proposal

If you want to do something unique for your proposal, why don’t you spell it out in the foam? It’ll be so romantic for your partner to look down and see the question waiting for them and it’s sure to get you a ‘Yes!’

marrymefoamThis is a cheap and effective way to pop the question. You don’t always have to write ‘Marry Me?’ either. Any personalised stencil can be made up which can be tailored to your own relationship!

Starbucks proposal

Instead of getting the barista at Starbucks to write your name on the cup, how about getting them to write ‘Will You Marry Me’ as well as your partners name on the side instead. Your partner definitely won’t be expecting it so imagine their surprise when they read it!
