Keep Them Guessing!
Keep your partner guessing by creating a miniature treasure hunt at home. If you fancy a night in on Valentine’s Day, this could be the perfect way to bring some mystery to your evening! Ensure that you are home before your partner, and make sure to leave yourself plenty of time for set up too. Put together a collection of handwritten notes for your partner with reasons why you love them and a clue to the next note location. The notes will be treasured by your partner for years to come and the clues will make for a fun activity to begin the evening. Hide the clues throughout the house along with small gifts, even just a box of their favourite chocolates will be much appreciated! Leave the first clue on the doormat, to be found as they enter the house, with a single red rose and make sure you stay hidden in the final clue location. Once all the clues have been found and your hiding place has been revealed, make sure to cook them their favourite meal and cuddle up for a classic rom-com on the sofa!
A Secret Cinema for Two
Surprise your partner by inviting them to their very own secret cinema! This date idea can be done at home, or you could hire a local space if you prefer. First, select their all time favourite film, even if it’s not a particularly romantic one, and set up the viewing method. Whether you choose to use a projector, your TV, a phone or a laptop, make sure to have the viewing all set up before you begin decorating. Once everything is in place, you can begin to transform your space. Be sure to fill the seating area with soft blankets and cushions, to make sure that your partner can really put their feet up! Create the perfect mood lighting with some candles and get their favourite snacks ready to go! Your partner will love the thoughtful decoration and will really appreciate the opportunity to spend some quality time with you.
Mr and Mrs
How well do you really know each other? Find out by holding your very own Valentine’s Day Pub Quiz. This one is perfect for any double daters out there, after all, Valentine’s Day is also a great time to let your friends know just how much you love them too. Put together a selection of questions about yourself and your relationship, before handing it over to your partner to do the same. If you want to do this in a large group, you can make a set of generic questions that each couple have to provide answers for. You can then team up in your couples to see who knows the most about their significant other! To achieve the perfect pub quiz atmosphere, stock up on everyone’s favourite snacks, pop a bottle of bubbly in the fridge and put together a killer playlist. This is the perfect way to make your Valentine’s Day more sociable and you’ll enjoy learning new things about your partner and friends!
A Technology Free Mini Break
You know what they say, go big or go home. Why not celebrate Valentine’s Day with a whole weekend away? If there’s a special location that has great memories for you both, or a destination that you have been meaning to explore, go ahead and book a surprise get away for yourself and your partner. Be sure to take all the stress away, pack the bags (with a little help from friends is fashion advice is required), arrange the transport and print the tickets. Try to keep the destination a secret for as long as possible to ensure maximum surprise factor upon arrival! Try to plan the weekend around your partner’s favourite past times. If they love to go rambling in the countryside, think about an idyllic cottage retreat that can offer all the outdoor experiences that they enjoy most. If they’re more of a beach bunny, have a think about where you can find some February sunshine. Oh and, one last thing, as soon as you arrive lock all your technology away. With constant emails and the ability to send messages in an instance, it’s easy to get lost in the overwhelming world of work. Unfortunately, we have found that, technology can sometimes be a little unforgiving when it comes to romance. Set yourselves the challenge of not using your mobile devices for the duration of your break, unless it is an emergency. Pressing that off switch is a great way to reconnect with your partner when screen time can seem to rule your life.
365 Thoughtful Gestures
Want to treat your partner all through the year? Create a homemade book of 365 tokens that your partner can redeem whenever they want. You could create tokens for cooking, making the bed, doing the shopping, tv channel choice, taking out the bins, any task that your partner would appreciate you doing for them. Make sure to let your partner know that they can cash in a token each day for a year and kick off the year by providing three ‘bonus’ tokens that can be redeemed immediately. Cook them dinner, give them a foot massage and let them choose the film!
