How to write a proposal speech

12th June '14

No matter how you decide to propose  whether it’s an intimate, private moment for just the two of you to share or an elaborate, public performance in front of dozens of people  the chances are you’ll want to say a few words before popping the question.

So here are some tips on putting together the perfect proposal speech.

Keep it short, simple and sweet: There are probably certain things you want to say and specific feelings you want to share, but don’t write an essay. Keep it short and simple so 1) you can remember it and 2) she can follow it. The likelihood is she’ll be overcome with emotion and excitement, so don’t ramble on for hours!

Make it personal: Use personal anecdotes and memories from your relationship together. Anyone can say they want to spend the rest of their life with you, but not just anyone can say why.

Keep it fun: Obviously you want to tell her (or him!) how much she means to you, but don’t make it too serious and frightening, keep it lighthearted and fun – and enjoy the moment.

Practice makes perfect: Be sure to practice your speech. On the day your nerves will bubble to the surface, so make sure you don’t have an extra thing to worry about with the speech and have it word-perfect for that perfect moment.

Enjoy it: This will be one of the most special and memorable moments of your life and an incredible moment to share with the one you love. So enjoy it!
