Once the engagement excitement has settled and you’ve come back to earth it’s time to get serious about planning the I dos!
For us, the first thing to do was decide when we wanted to tie the knot. I knew I needed at least a year to plan the big white wedding I’d always dreamed of and we’d already set our hearts on a summer wedding so 2016 was to be the year.
Then, we wasted no time at all getting on the venue hunt to decide where we wanted to get hitched. For me, Suffolk was always the prime location – my home for 20 years and the place I’d built dreams and memories. But home for us as a couple wasn’t in the countryside of East Anglia, nor my fiance’s home of Sussex. So, we were torn three ways.
We set up visits to a mix of barn-type venues – we were pretty sure this was what we wanted – as well as a hotel, across all three counties, to compare settings and prices but it was easy to see Suffolk was the winner.
We also put together a draft guestlist to ensure our venue options had enough seats – and dancefloor space – for the party we were planning. And, after an all-important ‘chat’ with the father of the bride, we made up our mind on our beautiful barn.
Now the venue and the date are set, I can turn my attention to the piles of wedding magazines and bulging Pinterest board to plan the rest of the day I’ve always dreamed of!
